The Way Near

The Gospel According to Leviticus

Leviticus is often one of the most avoided books in the Bible. It is filled with sacrifices, priests, blood, holiness laws, clean and unclean categories, feasts, and commands that can feel confusing to modern readers.

But Leviticus is not random. It is not merely ancient religious ceremony. It is not a book about people trying harder to reach God.

Leviticus is the story of a holy God making a way to dwell with sinful and broken people.

After rescuing Israel from slavery in Egypt, God came to dwell among His people in the tabernacle. But that created a serious question: How can a holy God live among an unholy people?

Leviticus answers that question through sacrifice, priesthood, cleansing, atonement, holiness, worship, rest, and restoration. And every part of the story points forward to Jesus.

Jesus is the better sacrifice.
Jesus is the better priest.
Jesus makes the unclean clean.
Jesus carries sin away.
Jesus brings true freedom, rest, and restoration.

This summer, Hope Community Church will walk through Leviticus in a 10-week sermon series called The Way Near: The Gospel According to Leviticus. Each message will stand on its own, so you can join at any point in the series.

Whether you have followed Jesus for years, are coming back to church, or are just beginning to explore faith, this series will help you see that Leviticus is not mainly about ancient rituals. It is about God’s desire to come near—and the grace He provides through Jesus Christ.
